Glossary
- Block
- An interactive view of one or more attached files, rendered on an item's page.
- Cell
- A built-in item type representing an assembled electrochemical cell.
- Collection
- A named group of items — a project, a paper, a thesis chapter.
- Constituent
- An item (usually a starting material or another sample) that went into making this one.
- Equipment
- A built-in item type representing an instrument or piece of hardware.
- Identifier prefix
- The short string identifying an instance, forming the first part of every refcode.
- Item
- Any top-level record: a sample, cell, starting material, equipment entry, or a custom type.
- Item ID
- The human-readable identifier you choose for an item. Changeable, and unique only within
an instance.
- Plugin
- A Python package that extends the server, most commonly by adding data blocks.
- Refcode
- The permanent, globally unique identifier assigned by the server, e.g.
grey_ab123.
- Remote filesystem
- A directory configured server-side that can be browsed from within datalab.
- Starting material
- A built-in item type for inventory entries — the chemicals on your shelves.
